Healthy eating: Tips and tricks for meal and snack times
Here are some tips and tricks that will help you to make mealtimes easier and healthier.
Make it a routine: Offer healthy meals and snacks at scheduled times throughout the day. Offer three main meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) and two small snacks daily.
Make it a good time: Don’t force children to eat specific foods or to eat at all. Give them healthy options and let they decide what and how much they want to eat.
Make it a family meal. Prepare the same food for the whole family. Eat the same food your children are eating. They will be more likely to try new foods if you eat them too.
Make food the focus: Turn off the TV, phone, computer, ipad and put away toys during mealtime. Instead, talk to each other about activities your family did that day. Kids eat better without TV and electronic distractions.
Make it healthy: Use the Eat Well plate to build a healthy meal plate for children. Remember to fill half your plate with veggies and some fruit. Add some cereal or grains and protein for a complete and balanced meal!
